Help your children manage anxiety with these strategies

The number one question I get from moms is “How do I help my child deal with anxiety?” First off, it starts with you. How are you managing stress or fear? If you are stressed and anxious, then chances are, your children will pick up on that. Here are some ways to help you and your children cope.

1. Take a deep breath, mama. Get yourself in a calm and open state.

2. Acknowledge their feelings.

3. Get out all of your oils... let them play with and smell them and decide on their top 3-4 faves. Make a special roller bottle blend just for them that they can use whenever they are feeling uneasy. They can make a cute name and label for it, too! You can can get 10 ml roller bottles on Amazon.

4. Talk about what stress looks and feels like to them (where they feel it in their body, how it feels emotionally, thoughts that come) and then give them 3 things to do when it happens.

Here are some ideas:

- take deep breaths
- go for a walk or play outside
- use their aromatherapy roller bottle
- recall a place they love and paint the picture in her mind
- think of 1-2 things that they are grateful for and picture every detail about them
- sing a happy song
- say a prayer or affirmation (write it down and color a picture to go with it and hang it up in a safe place)
- help someone else, be of service
- put on music and dance

Enjoy connecting with your child and showing them how to handle big feelings.

With consistency, these strategies will become a habit and you and your children will be managing anxiety with ease.
